Flu Shot FAQs

Q

Do I need a flu shot every year?

Yes, annual vaccination is recommended: Flu virus strains evolve each year, requiring new vaccines to be developed, and antibody levels also decline after 6-8 months. Only annual vaccination can ensure long-term immunity.

Q

What is the difference between trivalent and quadrivalent vaccines?

  • Trivalent vaccines protect against three strains: A(H3N2), A(H1N1) pdm09, and B/Victoria lineage virus.

  • Quadrivalent vaccines protect against these three plus an additional B/Yamagata lineage strain, theoretically providing broader protection.

Q

Is there a difference between domestic and imported vaccines?

Both are good choices: you may choose as best suits your situation.

Q

I never get the flu- I don’t need the Flu shot, do I?

All individuals aged 6 months and above without contraindications should receive the flu vaccine. Flu infection (and its complications) can be particularly dangerous to babies/infants, seniors, pregnant women and individuals with chronic illnesses. These groups are especially encouraged to receive the flu shot if possible, and vaccination of the entire community helps prevent transmission to these vulnerable populations.

Q

Will the flu shot make me sick?

The Flu shot cannot make you sick with the flu. However, as the vaccine fools your body into making antibodies, some people do feel a response from their immune system. This may include aches or a low-grade fever, and will ease in a day or two.
