High energy during the 7-day Am-Sino Pathways in Medical Practice internship

Are you considering a future in medicine but wondering what it’s really like? This summer, a group of aspiring young clinicians stepped into custom-fit scrubs at the Am-Sino Pathways in Medical Practice internship, embarking on a hands-on, immersive exploration of the medical world.

In just one week, they:

Learned directly from experienced doctors

Practised life-saving CPR

Rotated through core hospital departments

Discovered how AI is shaping the future of healthcare

Simulated participating in childbirth and surgeries in a professional training centre

Explored Traditional Chinese Medicine alongside modern family medicine

…and completed the week with confidence, practical skills, and unforgettable insights.

Day 1: The Journey Begins

Students from diverse backgrounds gathered for orientation, quickly forming bonds as they shared their goals and dreams.

Am-Sino’s medical leaders warmly welcomed the group, encouraging introductions that set a positive, inspiring tone for the week ahead.

Insights on Studying Medicine Abroad

Dr. Jane Lee provided practical advice on applying to UK medical schools and pathways to becoming a general practitioner.

Dr. Michelle Lu-Ferguson shared what it’s like to work in obstetrics and gynaecology, using her career journey to guide students interested in studying medicine overseas.

Doctor Panel: Learning from Experts

Doctors across specialties shared their most memorable moments in surgery, the art of connecting with paediatric patients, and the teamwork needed in high-pressure situations. Students asked thoughtful questions and selected departments they were most excited to explore.

First Lesson in Saving Lives

Students learned and practised CPR, including checking responsiveness, calling for help, effective chest compressions, and rescue breaths. Each step brought a deeper understanding of the weight and responsibility involved in patient care.

Days 2–5: Inside the Heart of Healthcare

Wearing scrubs, students rotated through departments, becoming “junior clinicians” for the week:

Internal Medicine: Observing how doctors analyse complex cases using systematic clinical reasoning.

Surgery and the Operating Room: Watching procedures, learning sterile techniques, and understanding patient care in action.

Pharmacy: Seeing how prescriptions are reviewed and medications managed safely.

Rehabilitation: Observing how therapists help patients regain mobility and function.

Seeing patients for the first time brought a unique mix of nerves and excitement, making each learning moment impactful and real.

Exploring Advanced Imaging and AI

At United Imaging’s advanced imaging centre, students witnessed how CT and MRI technology, paired with AI, helps doctors detect and diagnose conditions accurately, offering a glimpse into the future of intelligent healthcare.

Immersive Simulation Training

At the simulation centre, students:

Practised sterile procedures in a simulated operating theatre

Learned about childbirth in a delivery suite simulation

Explored the role of ventilators and monitors in a simulated ICU

Practised basic nursing skills in a simulated ward

These sessions turned textbook learning into practical, engaging experiences.

Day 6: Exploring Am-Sino Dingxiang Medical Centre

Students prepared and delivered presentations summarising their week, sharing key takeaways, personal growth, and reflections on the future of medicine. They spoke about patient-centred care, the role of technology, and what they had learned about themselves.

After receiving encouraging feedback from mentors, each student proudly received an official graduation certificate, marking an important step on their academic and career journey.

Day 7: Graduation and New Horizons

Students prepared and delivered presentations summarising their week, sharing key takeaways, personal growth, and reflections on the future of medicine. They spoke about patient-centred care, the role of technology, and what they had learned about themselves.

After receiving encouraging feedback from mentors, each student proudly received an official graduation certificate, marking an important step on their academic and career journey.

7 Days That Made a Difference

In just one week, curiosity transformed into passion, and interests turned into a clearer vision for the future. Students left with:

Their first encounter with the commitment and responsibility of medical practice

A deeper understanding of how a modern hospital operates

Friendships with peers who share their dedication and aspirations

This internship was more than a certificate—it was a true taste of what it means to practise medicine.
